Indian Soldiers WW1 link with Bournemouth

Indian Soldiers were walking on the beaches of Bournemouth 110 years ago. But this history has been lost in the dust of history.

INVITATION FROM BPC INDIAN COMMUNITY AND BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Date: Wednesday 13th November 2024, 6.30pm
Venue: Inspire Lecture Theatre, Bournemouth University, Talbot Campus

In 1914 the Indian army deployed troops to fight in France and Belgium. The treatment and care of the wounded and sick saw large numbers of Indians brought to the New Forest and Bournemouth to recover from their wounds. This free talk will examine how the Indian soldiers were treated and cared for and reviews the interaction between them and the local communities.

Nick Saunders is a New Forest based local historian, writer and battlefield guide. He has been studying the Indian army in the New Forest for the last five years. This topic was his dissertation for an MA in local history studies.
