Our networks bring together diverse voices from the Voluntary & Community sector, along with key partners, to share ideas and pursue common goals. At a Bournemouth Network meeting, an essential connection was made
- Townsend Community Association (TCA): A grassroots organisation rooted in the local area, identifying a need for engaging, positive activities for young residents.
- BCP Council: A key partner providing strategic insight into local community needs and resources.
- Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW): A leading arts organisation with the expertise to deliver high-quality, impactful creative programs.
By bringing these groups together, we helped them realise they shared a common goal: providing a safe, welcoming, and empowering outlet for children and young people in Townsend.

The collaboration quickly moved from idea to action. PDSW, TCA, and BCP Council worked together to launch a trial series of dance sessions for local children and young people. The sessions proved to be not only popular but also provided a much-needed, positive outlet for participants. This response demonstrated the need and appetite within the community for a sustained program.
The Impact: Securing a three-year legacy
The initial success provided the perfect evidence base for securing long-term support. Leveraging the positive outcomes of the trial, Pavilion Dance South West successfully secured significant funding from Children in Need to launch a comprehensive three-year community dance project in Townsend.
This funding ensures that these free weekly dance sessions, which are part of the Pavilion Dance Breakin’ Free series, will be a consistent fixture in the community. These sessions offer more than just movement; they will provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where young people can
- Move and Express Themselves: Explore their creativity and build self-confidence.
- Build Friendships: Develop crucial social skills and a strong sense of belonging.
- Access the Arts: Break down barriers to cultural and artistic engagement.
