The Trusted Reviewers Project drives research and transformation to improve day opportunities for adults across Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole. This research and transformation initiative listens to the voices of people who use services, their families, and carers, to shape future support that enhances wellbeing, independence, and community connection.

About the project

Commissioned by BCP Council as part of the Fulfilled Lives Programme, the TRP works to ensure people living with learning and physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and older adults have access to a wide range of community-based care options that enable them to live fulfilling, independent lives.

What we do

  • Understand the community: Map opportunities by identifying local groups, activities, and spaces, including transport and funding options.
  • Support individuals & families: Signpost to opportunities, create bespoke activity menus, and connect people to funding options.
  • Build connections: Link day-service users with community activities and providers.
  • Listen & Share Insights: Offer clear, unbiased feedback to adult social care teams and commissioners, informed by real community voices. Our research is designed to shape services that truly reflect what matters most to people, focusing on improving wellbeing, choice, and independence. Current projects are:

Ways to Wellbeing: A programme of locally delivered activities that meet one/some/all of the ways to wellbeing and have a focus on being active, being connected, learning and giving.

My Way Forward: puts lived experience at the heart of shaping future services. Through open conversations and community research, we support young people with diverse needs as they transition to independent adulthood. In partnership with providers and BCP teams across Adult Social Care, SEND, and Preparing for Adulthood, CAN is testing new approaches that expand choice and inspire more innovative support for young people.

Voices of the Future Research Project

The Voices of the Future (VOTF) research project has been led by CAN in partnership with BCP Council to explore ‘younger older’ people’s experiences across the 5 Ways to Wellbeing framework: Connect, Give, Be Active, Take Notice, and Keep Learning, alongside digital technology and overall health and wellbeing in later life.

The project began with a comprehensive desktop review, mapping existing services for older adults (60+) across BCP, drawing on intelligence from statutory, voluntary, and community partners

Building on this baseline, the team spoke with over 130 older residents across the BCP area, generating new insight into how people experience wellbeing, community, and connection in later life. Our report provides a detailed account of these themes, highlighting the importance of including older people’s experiences and voices throughout adult social care strategy and commissioning.

Bespoke support: How can we help?

We work with people to help them connect to activities in their local community. The team get in touch with the person, their family or support worker to find out what they are looking for and to suggest local groups and services.

Who is eligible for support?

Anyone with a health or social care need, or with a care and support plan, who needs help finding suitable activities to engage with in their communities. We will match the right activities to your needs and requirements.

How can I access support?

Fill in a Trusted Reviewer Support Enquiry Form, and a member of the team will be in touch.
This can be completed by someone looking to find out what support or services are available locally, by a professional, or a family member.

We were very impressed with the process – from initial enquiry to having trial days with us to becoming part of the Just4U family.  Our reviewer was always available & communication was excellent throughout. Clients were fully supported throughout & the transition ran very smoothly.
