The Autonomy Hotline provides vital advocacy and support to families navigating challenging situations. They stand alongside those facing social services interventions, child protection reviews, best interest meetings, domestic abuse, and court hearings to empower families, ensure their voices are heard, and help them navigate complex systems with dignity and understanding.
Sarah’s journey into volunteering was not an easy one. At the close of 2023, she and her family faced severe hardship, ultimately experiencing homelessness. In the face of such personal upheaval, Sarah’s commitment to The Autonomy Hotline has been nothing short of remarkable. With her passion for their mission and the families they support, she became an integral part of the team, reaching a point where the project’s smooth operation relies heavily on her dedication.
Sarah embraced the opportunity to share her skills and knowledge with the local community, and in doing so, has created something truly special. Her “drop-in” service in Churchill Gardens cafe grew organically and unexpectedly. Now, it’s become a well-known lifeline.
If someone is navigating a crucial social services meeting or grappling with a medical issue requiring a complaint, the word on the street is clear: “You need to see that lady over there, just buy her a coffee, and she’ll give you her time.” The cafe sees firsthand the individuals who arrive utterly broken by life’s challenges, and the transformative power of Sarah’s compassion
Sarah delivers high-quality support, expertly managing the helpline, reviewing complex paperwork, and providing steadfast support during challenging court hearings. Her natural talent for advocacy has even allowed the project founder to step back when needed, knowing the project is in capable hands.
Her growth and dedication are further evidenced by her role as a mentor and trainer for new team members. It’s hard to imagine that just three years ago, Sarah’s life looked drastically different. The path she has forged is filled with new and often complex ethical considerations, yet she navigates every situation with remarkable composure and clarity.
Sarah’s approach is defined by her unwavering non-judgmental attitude, steadfast support for individual choices and rights, and her unwavering commitment to every client who reaches out. She has achieved significant success in closing cases where clients, left to navigate their crises alone, would undoubtedly have faced immense difficulties.
