Support for Unpaid Carers in Dorset

Published on 25 January, 2024

We caught up with Tracy from Carer Support Dorset recently and she was keen to tell us about the ‘Carer Cafes’ that take place in Blandford, Bridport and Wareham. Carers can get together informally over a cuppa and cake and chat with other Carers.

Tracy said, ‘The feedback we receive is that Carers really value this peer to peer support.’

A timetable of Carer Cafes can be found here

Tracy told us that many people still don’t regard themselves as unpaid carers, even though they match the definition. Here it is for you to share with others so more carers can be identified and supported:

‘A carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. This also includes working carers, who are also in employment and managing caring responsibilities outside of work.’

As well as the Carer Cafes, Carer Support Dorset offer a range of support, such as support groups, training and drop-in sessions. Find out more by using the drop down menu on this page.
