Wise Advice for Life Group

The journey of the Wise Advice for Life Group is rooted in deep empathy and expertise. They are a collective of parents who not only navigate the daily realities of raising their own Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) children, but are also dedicated professionals working in the field. This dual experience provides a unique and powerful foundation for their work as they are delivering the very services and support they wished they had access to themselves.

Their primary focus is on closing a critical gap in support for Portuguese-speaking families. These families often face complex linguistic and cultural barriers when trying to access vital SEND resources in the UK. Wise Advice for Life is committed to providing tailored guidance that respects and celebrates their heritage, ensuring no family is left to navigate this challenging journey alone.

Wise Advice for Life’s journey of growth began when they partnered with CAN through the Ethnically Diverse Community (EDC) project.

Milestones in their transformation included:

  •  Attending extensive training sessions that equipped them with the knowledge to formalise their operations.
  • Developing a formal Constitution and crucial policies to ensure they operate ethically and transparently.
  •  Completing comprehensive Safeguarding Training which is essential for working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Successfully securing the EDC/DCF Grant and opening their bank account, providing the necessary financial stability to plan and deliver services.

The result of this foundational work is a group that delivers its activities with greatly increased confidence and stability. Wise Advice for Life is no longer just a supportive network; they are a well-governed, financed, and professionally capable organisation.

They leverage their collective expertise, empathy, and deep cultural understanding to offer meaningful, compassionate support, ensuring Portuguese-speaking families have access to the resources and community they need to thrive. They truly journey with families, turning their own personal challenges into empowering solutions for the wider SEND community.
