Community Action Network has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. We strive to act ethically and with integrity in all our activities and relationships to make sure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in CAN or any of our supply chains. We make sure our approach is clear with our partner organisations.
A modern slavery statement is an important part of our approach to implementing our values. We have adopted a statement that we update and publish annually on our website, although we are not required to have such under current regulations.
Organisation structure and supply chain
CAN represents around 8,000 charities and community groups across the county of Dorset. We develop practical resources designed to support the day-to-day running of our member organisations, which helps them focus on those they serve.
We are governed by our articles of association and a board of volunteer trustees who help direct our work, drawn in the main from charities and community groups.
They oversee our Chief Executive and SLT who manage our staff team of around 36.
We use several suppliers to enable us to carry out our activities which include:
• an IT support contract
• associates delivering training
We strive to ensure procurement policy and process include assessing risk and continuous improvement. We make sure modern slavery is addressed in all relevant policies including recruitment, safeguarding and whistleblowing.
Employment
We carry out employment checks, including making sure that our people have the right to work for us and that we pay at least the Living Wage.
