Empowering local Ethnically Diverse Communities
The Ethnically Diverse Communities Project is a three-year project funded by the National Community Fund (NLCF) and a partnership between the Community Action Network, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council, Dorset Race Equality Council (DREC), and Dorset Community Foundation (DCF).
The project aims to build capacity across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area community groups from ethnically diverse backgrounds by offering dedicated support to strengthen their infrastructure and identify their strengths and needs.
CAN appointed a team to run the project in April 2024. The team consists of a Project Manager and two Capacity Building Officers.

Project launch & progress
The project launched in June 2024 at a networking event with many different groups and representatives at Bournemouth University. Over 60 attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the project and meet other local organisations.
Highlights & next steps
Groups are supported to identify priorities, improve infrastructure and find funding opportunities. The team have supported many different groups and achieved great success.
