Volunteers’ Week is a reminder that volunteering isn’t just about individual action; it’s about building stronger, more connected communities.

We’ve been out and about, connecting with people at 37 promotional events! From presenting at BCP Council pre-retirement talks and NHS staff wellbeing events to visiting refugee and asylum seeker drop-ins and engaging with students at Bournemouth and Poole College and Bournemouth University Welcome Fests, we’ve directly reached over 330 people with information and advice. Our goal is to meet people where they are and spark that initial interest in giving back.
A highlight of the year was hosting Volunteer Fairs in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. These provided a welcoming space for over 160 attendees to explore a range of volunteering options from 39 participating organisations across 45 stands. It was great to see so many meaningful connections being made in person, fostering greater involvement in community life. A ‘mini fair’ at Bournemouth University brought opportunities directly to staff and students.

We also delivered the first Bournemouth Town Centre Action Day, delivered in partnership with BCP Council’s Knife Crime Awareness campaign. This truly community-focused event brought together local businesses, education providers, and residents for activities like litter picking and light gardening. One participant commented, “It was a really well-run event with a great vibe. Everything was perfectly organised and put our litter picks to shame.”
These events are more than just information sessions; they are designed to inspire, connect, and empower. This Volunteers’ Week, we celebrate the energy and enthusiasm of everyone who attended our events and took that crucial first step towards making a difference.
