Dorset Menopause Support hold in-person meetings across North Dorset, sometimes with guest speakers. They offer a safe and friendly place for women who feel distressed, confused and alone during the menopause and post-menopause years.
Women can share experiences, gaining strength and comfort by meeting others experiencing a similar change in life. They emerge with positive solutions, evidence-based information and new friends, and the knowledge that they are not facing this challenge on their own. Founder Rowan said ‘CAN has been instrumental in getting us off the ground as a CIC. Without CAN’s involvement and invaluable help (along with the support of my fellow directors!) I’m really not quite sure how I would have made it all happen in such a professional and less stressful way.
The ongoing networking and training through CAN is just amazing. I have met so many inspirational people to collaborate with, both now and in the future. It has opened the door to funding opportunities, given professional support and guidance and continually grown my knowledge within the voluntary sector.’
Dorset Menopause Support volunteers go out into the community, attending wellbeing fairs and hosting fundraising and wellbeing events to provide information and raise awareness of support available.
The Facebook community has grown from strength to strength. It allows women access to a huge library of menopause information, regular updates on symptoms, up-to-date management options, guidance and education as well as being able to post questions or share their worries at any time.
Their website includes a wealth of information about support and services on offer, as well as information on menopause. There’s also a template for a menopause policy in the workplace, a guide for partners, and direct links to educational videos, documentaries and courses, all to enhance knowledge on menopause.
