The Filo Project

Community Hero in the Spotlight, March 2026

The Filo Project supports older people and people with Dementia across the BCP Council area to enjoy a special day every week. A trained Filo Project ‘Host’ collects group members and takes them to their home for a day of company, fun and home-made food.

The older person attends lunch on the same day with the same host and group members every week, which gives closer friendships a chance to form and flourish. As local demand continues to grow, The Filo Project is looking to welcome new Hosts across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole who feel they could offer a warm, welcoming home to support people with early to moderate dementia and other challenges of older age.

By becoming a Host, you open your home once or twice a week to a small group, offering a relaxed, familiar setting for social connection and gentle activities, alongside valued respite for family carers. A home-cooked lunch is also provided, with transport available where needed.

Dawn has been a Host in Bournemouth for the last six months and shares her experience. “Getting to spend time with my group has been really fulfilling – some are able to share stories about their lives, about the war, their youth and they all enjoy a chat over tea and cake.

For at least one of the group, their weekly visit has become an anchor, a regular event in their lives which they can look forward to. I feel lucky to be involved with the work of The Filo Project. It’s heartwarming seeing the difference Hosting days make and the big smiles I get when I arrive to collect them in the mornings!”

Being a Host with The Filo Project offers good rates of pay and support from an experienced team.
