Routes to Roots

Community Hero in the Spotlight, April 2026

Routes to Roots became a registered charity in 2002 and supports people when they’re at their most vulnerable. Their Genesis Centre is a central hub for support for people experiencing homelessness in Poole. On offer are nutritious hot meals, showers, laundry, access to computers, clothing, sleeping bags, and practical assistance for those moving into accommodation. Alongside this are art, IT groups and a group for women.

Routes to Roots monitors the situation of homeless and vulnerably housed people in Poole and, crucially, supports people at risk of homelessness to help them find ways to remain housed. They also work with other organisations whose mission is to end homelessness, such as the Homelessness Partnership for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Alistair Doxat-Purser is one of our Voluntary and Community Sector Involvement Partners, and chairs this partnership. If your organisation supports people in any way to find or keep their homes, you are welcome to join the partnership.

Routes to Roots also gives presentations and talks about the charity’s vision and mission through volunteers who aim to inform, inspire and raise awareness in local businesses, schools, community groups, and churches.
