A new force against prejudice: Meet P.O.W.E.R.

Community Hero in the Spotlight, September 2025

A new organisation, P.O.W.E.R. (Prejudice, Objectification, Wrong Impression, Evasion, Resentfulness), has launched to combat the rising tide of prejudice faced by ethnically diverse communities. Formed by eight different projects with lived experience of prejudice, this group aims to provide a safe space for people to report incidents and find support.

Supported by our Ethnically Diverse Community (EDC) Project, P.O.W.E.R. launched on September 20th with a community event. They offer a range of services, including counselling, support, and signposting for individuals of all ages.

According to Tama, a CAN Capacity Building Officer for the EDC Project, “P.O.W.E.R. will aim to change the narrative and empower our community to speak out and fight the injustice.” Their work is crucial, as only an estimated 20% of prejudice incidents are currently reported to the police.

P.O.W.E.R. is a vital resource in our community, helping to foster a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone.
