Plants and Minds create pressure-free environments where people with mental health challenges have the opportunity to flourish in thriving, friendly communities surrounded by plants and nature.
The charity works hard to reduce stigma around mental health conditions. At the same time, its nurseries have a loyal and expanding customer base who come to shop for plants and gardening accessories because they’re keen to support team members’ recovery.
All the bedding plants, perennials, shrubs, exotics and climbers grown by team members for sale at the charity’s nurseries are often referred to as ‘plants with purpose’ as they give team members a reason to get out of bed in the morning. The quality of every plant on sale shows how it has been grown with love and care.

The sale of plants nurtured by team members at Cherry Tree and Chestnut provides vital income for Plants and Minds, ensuring it can support at-risk adults in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas. Plants and Mind signpost to specialist support services which focus on debt and budgeting, employment, further work opportunities, training and education, and mental health crisis support. Referrals to the nurseries have proven to be successful in stopping people from rebounding back into mental health hospitals, taking pressure off local NHS mental health services.
Want to support Plants in Mind? Buy your plants from their two nurseries!
Not got a garden? You can still support through Chestnut’s ‘Big 25 Challenge’, which is a special appeal aimed at raising funds to improve facilities for team members. Including sponsored running, baking, walking, workout and reading challenges, every £25 raised will help Chestnut to grow. Visit https://buytickets.at/plantsandminds for details.
