RAFT: Relationship and Family Therapy

Community Hero in the Spotlight, June 2026

Relationship and Family Therapy, RAFT, is here for Families. RAFT is a specialist counselling and therapeutic service supporting individuals, couples, families, children and young people, with a focus on relationships and mental health.

Alongside counselling, RAFT offers a family coaching programme for parents and carers. These sessions provide a supportive space to pause, reflect and gain practical tools around self-compassion, communication and understanding emotional dynamics at home. The charity offers both privately funded and publicly funded coaching programmes for low-income families.

Parents and carers frequently share that life feels “less on edge” and “easier to manage day to day” after support. Co-parents and couples describe feeling “back on the same side again,” with fewer repeated arguments and more moments of connection, even when things are still difficult.

RAFT also carries out commissioned work with Local Authorities, supporting families during particularly challenging periods, including those on the edge of care and families reunifying after children return home from care. Families involved often reflect that the support felt ‘safe.’

In addition, RAFT provides affordable counselling for children and young people face-to-face in some spaces across BCP Council and Dorset Council areas, as well as online counselling for teenagers. RAFT understands that many young people do not meet CAMHS thresholds (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) or face long waits for counselling, and is here to support them in the meantime.
