Trusted Reviewers, one of the newest projects delivered by CAN aims to capture, through conversations, people’s lived experience of accessing day opportunities in the Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP) area. Feedback shared and collaboration with community providers help to develop and enhance the range of options available to people supported by social care and to help shape BCP Council’s Fulfilled Lives Programme; a commitment to championing person-centred care for everyone.

Since the project began in June 2024, CAN’s Trusted Reviewers have gotten off to a flying start, spending time with services that run a range of activities for people with learning and physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and older people. To date, the team has had conversations with more than 100 people, including individuals with care and support needs as well as numerous families, carers, and professionals.
Talking about their work, a Trusted Reviewers said:

“The project creates space for people to talk about the things matter to them, and what they might want to do if they had the opportunity”.

In addition to working with Tricuro, which runs the larger daycare centres in BCP, the Trusted Reviewers have visited a wide range of other care providers, from bigger providers such as Minstead Trust to smaller community groups and clubs, undertaking a fresh look at activities and options available across BCP. The project’s next phase is linking groups and people with the wider range of services available in their community, supporting people to try new activities and develop skills in a bespoke way.

It’s a huge task, but we hope that the project will lead to people and their families having a greater sense of choice and more opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.
