Multiply Numeracy Programme & Champions Scheme

Published on 6 August, 2024

Six months of funding remain for the Multiply numeracy programme and it would be great to see this government funding do as much as possible to improve maths and numeracy skills across Dorset. Multiply activities have been delivered to over 1,500 learners in communities and workplaces across the county but there’s still work to do.

If you haven’t yet engaged with Multiply, now is the time to get involved. Free courses include:
• Cooking on a Budget
• Maths for Parents
• Excel for All
• Number Confidence
• Get Ready for Functional Skills

Suitable for anyone in Dorset who is 19 or older and has maths skills below Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade C/4).

National Numeracy Champions Scheme

Skills & Learning has joined the National Numeracy programme which provides funding* for National Numeracy to train and support 25 Numeracy Champions across Dorset. National Numeracy is hosting an event on Tuesday, 20th August, 10am – 11am to learn more about the scheme and taking part.

This CPD-accredited programme is not about teaching maths but focuses on helping adults who may feel anxious about numbers. You don’t have to be a maths specialist or even like maths – just a supportive person to help others improve their confidence and skills. The programme is suitable for those supporting adults in council services, their communities, their workplaces or other organisations. It is a voluntary role and the individual benefits are:

  •  CPD-accredited training programme
  • Become part of a growing network of Numeracy Champions across the UK.
  • National Numeracy’s trained Champions find it satisfying to support adults and help improve confidence and skills
  • Numeracy Champions appreciate the opportunity to improve their skills and confidence with numbers and supporting others.

* The National Numeracy Champions scheme in Dorset is fully funded by the Government’s Multiply programme grant.
